We are the family of 4 from Florida looking into the move to either Pleasanton area or Temecula, CA. We have a son that is about to start kindergarten this fall and he has hearing loss. Where we live lack resources for the deaf and hard of hearing. Southern California especially the Orange County have the best resources for the hard of hearing who prefers oral communication (not using sign language)or total communication (oral with sign language). Im profoundly deaf and i use American Sign Language to communicate and my husband is not deaf. My son has expressed how important the sounds are to him and he has a passion in music. Oral/auditory program is the best fit for my son at this level of his hearing loss.
My husband works for FedEx and Temecula, CA seems to fit our family perfectly. They have oral/auditory program and we love the beach and anything that's involving water. I felt more at peace with southern california…
However, my husband may get a job offer from a corporation in Pleasanton, CA that is related to his field. He's about to graduate in 2 weeks. He really wants to be in that company and he does not want to miss the opportunity.
Where we are at financially.. we can barely afford a home in Pleasanton or anywhere near. We have a cat and two small dogs and apparently we will have to find homes for them. It seems 'land-locked". We lived by the coast since birth. It's going to be a shock if/when we move to NorCal. I'm terrified and my husband seems optimistically about it. I don't plan on working because my son requires more attention for his special needs and my daughter is only 2 years old. We have a strong support system in Temecula and Riverside.. we know no living soul in NorCal.
My husband has been looking for jobs other than FedEx in southern california but there was no luck. He's about to get approved for his transfer with Fedex to Temecula. The company that he wants to work for is global and he can always transfer to southern california when he moves up. So, if my husband accepts the job offer in Pleasanton--- I'm asking for any suggestion on a place where we can live that is near Pleasanton, CA that has a good community for raising families and homes that are no more than $2200 a month. And if you happen to know anything about oral/auditory program at schools then please share! I know there is one in Sacramento and Santa Clara but they are about an hour or 2 away from Pleasanton, CA. Any information you may have would be very helpful! Thanks in advance!

I can see why you would want Temecula but Temecula is just as far or further to the ocean then Pleasanton. Repost in the forum for that area of California. I wouldnt give up my dogs for anyone.

He would have to drive over the Altamont Pass, but you can find much more affordable home in Mountain House or Tracy. Temecula is a long drive from Orange County

I know there is a good school for the deaf in Fremont, which is close to Pleasanton, however, it is the bay area and nothing is affordable I agree that Tracy is an affordable town and Mountain House. American Canyon is semi affordable, but is approximately 50 mins from Pleasanton and no schools that I know of. Sorry, I can't be more help. My family and I are looking at the Temecula/ Murrieta area for a move too. It seems like a great place.
