I love living in Visalia, California because, GASP , I can actually afford to own a nice home in a good neighborhood with good schools on a regular salary. When there isn't any haze in the air, Visalia has to have one of the most beautiful mountain views in the world; it is truly awe inspiring. What's great about the central valley (Sacramento through Bakersfield) is that pay isn't too dissimilar (at least in my field) to what bay area/socal jobs pay but the cost of living is a fraction of what it costs in those areas, so you get a lot more bang for your buck. California has so much natural beauty I don't even know where to begin. The multi-cultural influence in California rivals any other place in the world, not to mention the women in California (no lie, the women here are more naturally beautiful than any other place I have ever been in the world.) I am not a native myself, but I can't imagine being anywhere else at this point.

The weather! The diversity of landscapes. The cities. The towns. The country meets city life.

The list goes on and on.

The only place I can think of that comes close to matching California is Australia.

Mt Lassen is amazing, as well as Mt. Shasta.

We have long, beautiful springs and falls, with short winters mostly in the 60s/40s, and summers in the high 80s/ 70s.

Nobody cares about the LA area, but that's such a tiny part of the state. Maybe you need to travel and really see your state before you condemn it as "not that great".
When did I say that? I live in the LA area and think it's the best part of state.
