I currently live in Fresno, CA with my parents as I am still a college student attending Fresno State. Go Dogs! I am currently in a program where I take off a semester from school and do a full time paid internship. The company that selected me is located in Lost Hills, CA which is 1.5 hrs from Fresno. They will pay for my gas btw. I did a quick search online and Lost Hills seems to be a very small town with one apartment complex popping up on google and the next closest apartment listings are about 45 minutes away from Lost Hills. My current dilemma is do I make the commute each day or do I try to find my own place close to work? My car is not new (90s) but it is very reliable and gets 32mpg. To the people familiar with the Lost Hills area, is there fog I should be concerned about in the mornings that could potentially turn my 1.5 hr commute into 2+ hrs? Are there places that you know of that I could consider? Thanks in advance!

Some people in the Bay Area rent rooms just during the week, but live out of town. They make for great roomers, since the person renting the room out gets the place to themselves on the weekend. You might want to check out if there's a listing on Craigslist. Though, if it's that small, you may not find anything like that.

If it was me, I'd talk to the apartment complex right in Lost Hills. If you could move there during your internship, that would be ideal. I personally hate to commute. If I could afford to rent the apt in town, that's what I'd do. Then go to Fresno for the weekends.

Also, is there a facebook page or anything where you could find other students going there for the internship? If that's an option, maybe you could share an apt with a fellow intern.

I would look into whether or not you can work a 4/10 schedule. Is this an olifield company or a farming company like Paramount? Having a 3 day weekend would make the commute worth it IMO. And at least it is not a heavy traffic commute which are more brutal IMO.
