So...how safe do you feel in California compared to other states you're been to?

It's funny...my parents moved to Tennessee about 6 years ago from here in California. And they say they feel way way safer there living in TN compared to CA. They could keep there doors unlocked at night, leave there car running while they go in to shop at the store. People there are friendly. They don't have to worry about gangs or giving the wrong person the wrong look. And the weird part is Tennessee has a way higher crime rate than California right now. I think it might be differences in the way the states report crimes. And I think here in Cali ALOT of crime probably goes unreported because of the high illegal immigrant population. They won't be reporting crime because they don't want to be shipped off back to Mexico.

Feelings may or may not correspond to reality.

I am not sure I would leave my car running ANYWHERE while I go in to shop at the store. It wastes gas and is just an invitation for auto theft. (My car won't allow me to lock my doors if the keys are in the ignition.)

Also, you mean "their" when you are writing "there" in your third sentence.

Immigrants - both legal and illegal - come from all over the globe. Why would you ship them to Mexico? Of course, Cabo would be nice.

The City of San Bernardino is the answer here. I worked there for two years and shoot I would not stay there a minute after work.

I grew up in Riverside, now live in OC. While San Bernardino is definitely full of crime, I had to vote for LA because that place literally frightens me.

As far as other states, there are definitely good and bad areas in every city (just like there are here). Vegas, Phoenix area, etc. all have pockets of good and bad. I simply look at my surroundings to assess the "level" of the area. Bars on the windows and lots of people standing or sitting around in baggy clothes (regardless of race)? Nope, won't be getting out of my car there.

There is no county where I've ever felt "unsafe from crime" when visiting. Out of the four I've lived in (LA, SF, OC, Santa Clara), I've only experienced crime in the first two: bicycle stolen in LA (one event in 10+ years), bicycle and wallet stolen in SF (two events in 3 years). So I guess I'd have to go with SF based on personal experience.

I don't feel too safe where I live in L.A ... our emergency response times are very slow. There are some parts of L.A that feel safe but they are usually where homes are $1million+..

They say crime is down...but I don't know if I trust the data they release.

I've been robbed at gunpoint in Santa Ana, my car stolen in Fullerton, and a few assaults and thefts in OC and San Diego in the past 15 years or so.
