Most of the online bullion dealers are in CA. Beware scams and boiler room type pressure to buy. If you buy at a retail store in CA, you might have to pay a sales tax. See
Regulation 1599 . Whatever you do, stay away from Discount Gold Brokers.
I've bought from JMBullion, which is located in Lancaster (PA not CA). They are an old line refiner of gold and silver. I've also bought from Blanchard in New Orleans. If you have a Fidelity Brokerage account, you can buy precious metals from them but they don't advertise the fact.

Ah, but this country has demanded citizens turn over their gold before ....
No investments are without risk but, imho, the physical gold coins are best. Although, I think they recalled the gold currency once also, not sure about that one though.
