I used to have a (CA) next-door neighbor who'd scream at people out this window that he'll burn them alive, etc...he had a gun and eventually opened fire on a neighbor (he damaged that neighbor's car and he came to ask him about it) and killed himself after 30 cop cars arrived and seiged the apartment complex (he knew he had a long time to do in prison). He's been menacing people for a long time. Accross the border, in Nevada, this guy would know he'd be taken care of quickly, by fellow citizerns, if he was acting the way he did.
First off, I and several other people I know carry, so people are allowed to do so.

Secondly, if a person is in their home shooting out the windows like a maniac, no sane/logical person armed or not is going to play hero and try to end it, that is a job for the police and their specialist gear.

Third, fellow citizens going to a situation to "stop it" is not self defense, that is a militia/mob that will get them or others killed.

Lastly, my guns are to protect my family and I, taking a life is not easy and some of you vigilante types need to realize it is a last resort, not a solution to every conflict, protect yourself and leave the psychos to the professionals.

We're glad you yearn for the Wild West, but it's guys like the psycho neighbor who expressly SHOULD NOT have a loaded weapon. Of course, like so many before him, and so many after, before he was engaging in criminal whacko activity, he was yet another LAW-ABIDING citizen who insisted on personal "protection" against ____________(insert any of a familiar laundry list of paranoias here). Maybe even a "patriot". Law-Abiding...until he wasn't. Been a bunch of shootings all over the place just this past week. By LAW-ABIDING good ol' boys (actually white men in their twenties) who crossed the line in spectacular fashion, with their own unique requisite justifications and rationalizations for doing so. Kind of get the idea that crazies are getting guns sold to them by crazies (gun shows), spurred on by crazies (NRA), and awaiting their own "day in the sun". Too bad the rest of us have endure the increasingly frequent fallout from this.

Or maybe we just take to the streets and shoot them before they shoot us? Wouldn't that be great?

Hopefully this bill will pass. Geez, you gun "advocates" will never be satisfied until you can have tactical nuclear weapons at your disposal.

There is a limit and we've reached it. If you think this bill is a problem, you need some professional help.

Mike930:
Here in Seattle we had a mass-shooting earlier this week. The shooter confessed that he wanted to shoot up a school for the publicity.

Maybe instead of restricting gun ownership we should start restricting media sensationalism, which giving more than a little inspiration to these crazies.

And BTW, that policy has been proven to work. After the Beslan School Massacre in Russia, President Putin introduced a law into the Russian Parliament (which passed) putting restrictions on media sensationalism, which in the Beslan Case, was what the attackers desired as well. As a result, these types of attacks have decreased radically in Russia.

What I'm afraid is actually going to happen is that mass-shootings will decrease because of the media sensationalism---that is when the crazies decide they aren't sensational enough anymore. Then, they're going to start using real weapons of mass destruction: bombs, poisons and the like. President Putin's policy was very far-sighted in that respect.

As a side note, the worst mass-murder ever committed in an American school was committed with bombs. It happened in 1927, in Bath Township, Michigan and was carried out by a school administrator.

Putin's policy isn't a bit "far sighted". While it is true that sensational coverage drives all kinds of outrageous behaviors, restrictions of the press and free speech are far more dangerous to a free society than terrorism and sensational violence. Putin doesn't champion a free society. Just the opposite.
