It's great here in the coastal zone.

Gee, guess that doesn't explain why California has the highest number of ultra-wealthy individuals… who BTW, can afford to live anywhere they choose?!!

When they talk about the ideal climate, they're not talking about SoCal, with the possible exception of the narrow coastal strip.
Yes they are lol.

Ick. OMG. I'd take the inland East Bay over all of those places any day of the week.

But I'm glad not everyone wants to live in CA's climate, since Mediterranean climate zones only cover 2% of the earth's surface.

Oh wait...
If only the OP bothered drive 10-30 miles west. I assume they meant the outer East Bay as the inner East Bay is very mild during summer and not really "hot" or endlessly sunny either.

I don't see how this is relevant to the discussion.

Sorry about that, although I'm pretty sure that most retirees and other reasonably affluent folks who deliberately choose here to live, will "get" it well enough…

six months of summer in the East SF Bay? east bay isnt as hot as you make it sound, and not 6 months of summer, Fremont for example 71, 75, 77, 77, 77, 73 from May to October (average high). that is very pleasant for your average person. most people there love the climate.

Average Weather for Fremont, CA - Temperature and Precipitation

That Fremont summer is what the coastal Socal beaches summers look like, and there are other beaches warmer than that (Long Beach, Seal beach, PVP, San Pedro, Willmington, laguna Beach, dana Point, San Clemente, etc) That east bay summer looks like a DT San Diego (a place that is considered to have the best weather in the country) summer (Average highs), the lows are way warmer in coastal SoCal.

a place like Commerce (next to Downtown LA would be hell to you, summer all year according to your reasoning. when in fact you can tell the difference between August and january, a 71 F high cant be considered summer.

San Diego climate is the best in the world.. people from all over the world move to San Diego and Southern California just for the climate.. why do people think its 3k for a one bedroom apartment near the beach in San Diego?

I am with you on the hot summers. I think most of the East Bay is perfect, but it does get hotter inland around Walnut Creek.

You'd absolutely hate summers in Redding, as do I! I'm ready to move somewhere cooler. But, unlike you, forget about living anywhere with endless winter and snow. So, I'm looking at the northernmost coast of CA for my next summer, hopefully.

But, you don't get all four seasons and cool summers too, in CA, in one place. That's quite true.
