Of course it is. We just put a pergola in our back yard and replaced two sets of patio furniture with new stuff, fluffy cushions and all. Oh, and lots of solar landscape lighting. It only makes sense that we would then have record-breaking rainfall.

You're welcome.

With all this hype, come about November or December, when little or no rain has fallen in the San Joaquin Valley and/or SoCal, expect to see the headline of "El Niño Weaker Than Previously Thought" as it turns into a non event.

You can take that to the bank.

Nowadays, with the ubiquity of that phrase "...than previously thought". That is now the much overused out that journalists now hide behind to cover up the fact that most of them are making up the news as they go along and have no real idea what they are talking about.

I would rather have more of these headlines than none. Too many issues get ignored after their 15 seconds under the spotlight and it would be great to have reminders and a follow up.

El Niño keeps growing, but no guarantee California drought will end - San Jose Mercury News
And NASA today says…Godzilla El Nino to be worse than previous El Ninos | NASA
Great catch, snowpack is a lot more helpful than flooding. Our infrastructure is probably designed to flush floodwaters out of the city rather than to divert and hold it. While there are some storm water diversion facilities, I think they are relatively limited in scope.

If California has to count on a feast-and-famine availability of water, I think it would take some radical re-engineering of cities to safely capture and hold floodwaters. I imagine it would take concepts like converting some roads to do double duty as flood channels during very large rain storms.

Well someone had to perform the rainmaking ritual.

“There’s no longer a possibility that El Niño wimps out at this point. It’s too big to fail,” said Bill Patzert, climatologist for NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in La Cañada Flintridge.

Anyone who has lived in Southern California for a while knows that our rainiest months are January, February, and March. The worst rainstorms are usually in February. (Now watch it pour in November and December, making a liar out of me! )
