My spouse and I are thinking of moving to Poway area. He lived in San Diego for 6 years while in the military. We now both live in Missoula Montana. I am so tired of bitter cold winters. I would love to move, but my biggest draw back is Job opportunities. I currently work for a non-profit community health center as a Financial Assistant. I am wondering if there is a job market for this in San Diego and if so does anybody know an average salary? Thank you for your help!

I am not certain if you will find employment in San Diego (I lived there 1998-2013, mostly in University City.) I would highly recommend that you find a job BEFORE you try moving to San Diego. The location is very desirable and many people show up and will work for food. Half of Phoenix AZ rolls in using their RVs in July, August to escape from the heat. Employers know about this and pay their employees in "Sunshine Dollars" (a sarcastic term for paying below-market rates for employees).

Poway has good schools but the weather gets hot in the summer, maybe 105 degrees for almost a week, every summer. The land is all scrub brush and the real estate (if new) is quite expensive. You would be on the I-15 commute corridoor which allows you to drive North to Escondido or south to Downtown San Diego. Another location to live in that is even better imho is Tierrasanta, two suburbs south. It's rumored to be filled with unexploded bombs from the Navy and so houses are very cheap, because of the rumors. We lived there for our first 7 months in San Diego ~ until the owner of our house decided to sell the house. We were very happy there and it's cooler and much more central than Poway, and has some of the best bang-for-the-buck in terms of housing costs vs. location and foliage. Don't believe the rumors, it's all BS.

Thank you for your help and advice. We have been thinking of Poway mostly for the schools, we have two younger children in elementary school. I will absolutely not move unless a job is already in line for me and my spouse. I might add that my spouse is now an RN so I would think he could find a job easily.
