I ran into a person who lived in a small mountain town in the northern part of CA, they said it was beautiful with all kinds of wildlife and great fishing. They said there was a reservoir in the area. Does this sound familiar to anyone?

I am looking for a place to call home in the mountains on a limited retirement budget. Ideas?

Thanks!

And you didn't ask them the name of the town?

Um....somewhere around Tahoe, or just south of Tahoe--Echo lake, or around there? The Shasta area? Trinity Alps?

Could be McCloud. I still haven't made it there, but it's supposed to be really nice. I believe there are some subsidized apartments there, too. I seem to recall seeing an ad for a manager for them in the Redding Craigslist at one point. You could Google the county housing authority to check that out.

Could be one of at least several dozen communities. Who knows?

Burney? Lake Britton and Burney Falls are very close by. Rising River and Hat Creek are noted for their fly fishing. Redding is an hour drive to the southwest for major shopping trips. Medical services are kind of spotty outside of Redding.

I think it is most likely Weaverville which is ground zero for tourists and fishing for Lewiston and Trinity Lakes. Weaverville is about 30 miles west of Redding, it is surrounded by mountains, some of them the Trinity Alps with peaks over 8,000 feet. Weaverville is along 299 which goes from 101 in Arcata to Redding and beyond eastward. It is the largest town between Redding and the coast, but there are many other small towns along 299, such as Willow Creek, Hawkins Bar, Salyer, Big Bar and Junction city.

Weaverville, Quincy, and McCloud are good bets. I'd throw in Chester too.
