The difference between me and you is I don't have to lie online. I'm not claiming to have a PhD. But I'm willing to bet I can run circles around you on these subjects. I have an extensive library and I debate many of my friends and associates all the time...

Don't believe me, post a topic in the "great debates" section and I'll me you over there...

Egg prices didn't seem all that high to me lately and I think I am seeing them about at their old prices. Turns out the majority of any price increase we saw were due to the supply shortage after avian flu hit many flocks and not because of the legislation giving chickens more room.

In 1915, an American could expect to pay about 35 cents for a dozen eggs. Pretty cheap, huh?

Not at all. Because the average American worker made less than $700 per year in 1900.

A Glimpse at Your Expenses 100 Years Ago | Personal Finance | US News

Do the math. Unless you're paying over $25 for a carton of eggs, you're getting them for less of a portion of real income than they were a century ago. The modern agricultural industry produces eggs at a small fraction of the real, inflation-adjusted price of yesteryear.

And some people just can't do anything but complain that it isn't lower still...

Aside from the price of eggs, has anyone noticed how much grocery prices in general have increased in the last 5 or 6 years? At one of the grocery stores where I shop, they used to tell me it was due to the increase in fuel; delivering the stuff was getting more expensive. But since the bottom dropped out of gas prices, they've stopped saying that. Prices are still going up, though.

Supposedly there's very low inflation, but aren't grocery prices one of the main barometers of inflation? Why haven't the "experts" been keeping tabs on that?

What items are you referring to at grocery stores? With the drought, I would assume you meant produce, dairy, nuts, etc?

Does anyone here get eggs from the egg man? He seems pretty honest and knowledgeable about his product.
