A recently filed ballot initiative...and new plans for legislators to wrestle with how to achieve universal healthcare have taken shape in recent weeks, and the the conversation is poised to take on national heft as Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) prepares to introduce a “Medicare for all” measure in the fall.

“Countries like Germany, Japan, the Netherlands, Switzerland and others have universal coverage but not through single-payer arrangements,” Oberlander said. “The notion that the choice is the U.S. status quo or Canadian-style single payer is a prevalent myth.”

By providing a forum to hash out the healthcare debate through the fall, the hearings almost certainly will propel the issue into 2018.

The debate over single-payer healthcare in California isn't going away. Here's why - LA Times
Thought this was interesting from the above link:

"The top Democratic candidates have staked out varying positions on the topic: Former Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa has called a state-level single-payer plan “snake oil,” while Lt. Gov. Gavin Newsom, who is backed by the nurses association, has called for universal healthcare but has not yet rolled out a proposal. Treasurer John Chiang has signaled support for the concept of single payer but said he has concerns over implementation."

Where does the money come from?

Then note:
"The initiative, filed by Dale Fountain, who leads the Facebook group Enact Universal Healthcare for California, would create a special account expressly for healthcare that would be exempt from rules that dictate how the state’s general fund dollars must be spent. Does this mean general funds can be used while being taken from other claimed needs like Roads?

Or does it mean that the General Fund cannot dip into the new fund at all for other projects and debt?

Let's hope that figuring this out will be one of the points in having these hearings (unlike the former measure that was apparently poorly put together and thus was shelved).

State insurance regulators called on Congress to move quickly in the face of mounting warnings from health insurers that without congressional action by the end of September, consumers will face major premium hikes next year:

Be careful what you wish for I guess (and I was one of those wishing in 2009). This is on top of 13% for 2017. Only a mere eight times the rate of inflation. Patient protection is one thing (eliminating pre-existing conditions clauses and benefit caps ), but this is quite another.

While I see his point about free college education, it doesn't really translate to health care. His comment, "Health care costs keep rising for a simple reason: the guy who’s getting the benefit is not the guy who’s paying," is not really true. There are plenty of people paying through the nose for the same kind of coverage that costs far less for many others. (And that doesn't even include those who are subsidized by the government.)

I'll call it now.

Covered California is going to have another double digit raise next year.

There will also be another major tax hike in CA.

Are you saying?
YOU get the benefit of seeing doctors, visiting hospitals and drug stores.
You are the ONE paying all the bills directly?
Then why you need insurance?

Exactly.

Scams like Covered California only work by forcing those who don't use the service to pay and cover those who do. Obama said this numerous times when he was selling ACA to the public.

Obama Explaining why ACA has recorded double digit percentage rises in premium cost in 16 states:
Quote:

In those states where the governor or legislature is hostile to the ACA, it makes it harder to enroll people because the state is not actively participating in outreach. And so, as a consequence, in those states enrollment in the plan -- especially enrollment of young people -- has lagged.

--- Barack Hussein Obama
Obama is basically saying "Those states aren't tricking enough young people to pay for coverage they won't use, so of course premiums are going to rise!"

These scams always rely on "young people" forking out money for health coverage most of them won't use, and that money will help cover the rising costs of the elderly.

Redistribution 101.

The Democrats brought us Obamacare. It forced insurance companies to cover people who would be very expensive to keep alive. That's why the costs went up. 2 pronged strategy: Blame Republicans for resisting this flawed concept. Then force us into single payer program where everyone gets DMV quality of health care.
