Because someone who enjoys city life in San Francisco, Los Angeles or San Diego, would not want to move to a small rundown town in the middle of nowhere, compare restaurant options between the cities above to Arcata... that alone is enough reason to get room mates worst case scenario lol.

By Chinese what do you mean? Hot pot? Sichuan? Cantonese? Dim Sum? I highly doubt they have any of these... it's probably generic "Chinese" where you get Orange Chicken and Broccoli Beef.

By Mexican, I imagine every place there serves their dishes with refried beans, cheese, lettuce, sour cream and all the other Westernized stuff.

This issue isn't unique to Arcata, it applies to almost any secluded small town in America, so don't feel bad, but it's one reason why I could never live in a secluded small town as I love eating food. If you could drive 30 minutes or less and be in a big city, that's no problem, but to be hours from any city would just be awful to me, for my tastes and most people who desire to live in the Bay Area, Los Angeles Area or San Diego Area.

That also happens here in the Bay Area.

Also I doubt Orlando is much better.

I don't get it. You love to talk about how crappy any other city in America is, yet many have way more amenities and advantages than arcata. But you keep waving the cheers for arcata. You really should go up there and see how remote it is.

No, you can find authentic places in the Bay Area and in Orlando. One of my favorite hot pot places is just 20 minutes from me. I can give you a list next time you are in SF.
