Apparently this proves we are not out of the woods yet and government and corporate restrictions are likely to linger for a long time. We learned at the beginning that the vaccine isn't a magic wand/salvation as it once thought to be, given that even highly vaccinated countries still suffer from surges and lock downs in recent months. There is a great amount of secrecy in how authorities around the world calculate rates. Just like the threat levels used after 9/11. People are punished without much transparency. Its been almost twenty years since September 11th yet we are still suffering from the consequences and security surges. Even after the threat tiers had been eliminated. I still remember "we are now at threat level Orange" annoucement at Airports until 2008? This sounds eerily similar to the Coronavirus tiers county to county today. The only rules that had been relaxed since 9/11 is for small scissors and small pocket knifes. But with each passing year it appears more security rules are pushed upon the people every year. Getting on an International flight especially to return to the US has just became more hasslesome over time.

Its easy to find out that 14 days to "flatten the curve" is a lie from very beginning. If lockdowns work so well cities in China would had been ok by the end of Lunar New Years Holiday season which is exactly 15 days long. Since they had such a dracon lockdown (almost like a supermax prison lockdown). Yet not only did many parts of China remain completely locked down to the point of imprisonment for millions of people for 70 days straight before things calmed down in terms of new infections and deaths they only started to relax restrictions around April 15 or so, the exit ban from China's airports also failed to keep cases from exploding in the rest of the world in March 60 days after commencing in the Lunar New Years. I remember only five flights left China to the US Since Lunar New Years until June or something and everyone who left, mostly US consulate/embassy families, were quarantined at a military base. Same goes for the evacuations flights to other countries with consulates/embassies in China.

The most frustrating restrictions these days are how fast food places are not only still blocking tables. They are often also locking or using tables to block restrooms a lot even though their lobby is open. Lobbys also close without warning. Its not due to COVID but do to understaffing for their decision. As it happens in places that are fully open in terms of full service restaurants.

The confirmed virus rate is per 100 K people, so that's obviously not a factor.

And the 9 supposedly young, healthy, and physically fit New York Yankees contracted COVID-19 after having been vaccinated because of lack of physical distancing and no masks. They were one of the few major league baseball teams allowed to ease up on restrictions in April.

Bureaucracy always grows. It's not something to generally be angry about, for it's inevitable.

Re COVID-19, we aren't out of the woods yet, simple as that. Not until late this year at least. Masks will go away for almost everyone not very long from now, except for those who like the extra amount of protection and will wear them habitually. People, if masks are your idea of badness, be grateful.

You aren't entitled to an answer, so don't get your feather's ruffled when you don't get one.

Eventually all 58 counties will hit yellow tier, even if the color code scheme unofficially goes away. When statewide numbers reflect this, we will have effectively bottomed out since there is no lower level. The emergency powers were invoked and remain in effect on the premise that there is an actual emergency. In his most recent comments on the matter, he reiterated that point to the effect that the virus hadn't "vanished" therefore the emergency persists.

He's dug himself into a hole with this logic. Relinquishing the emergency powers at any point forward would according to him mean the virus has disappeared (unlikely to ever happen) which means the state achieved a lower rate than the lowest possible color tier even allows. He has insisted, in front of a judge for that matter, that there is no so-called "green" tier because it's not an attainable level.

So we're stuck in this absurd limbo until all legal options have been exhausted (years) or until he's recalled and a more practical replacement comes along and does what's right OR until the legislature finally grows a pair and takes his favorite toy away.

I guess California must be doing something right...

Quote:
As of Monday, California’s seven-day case rate per 100,000 people was 11, tied with Nebraska for the third-lowest among all states, according to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. California is behind only Vermont, with a 6.9 seven-day case rate, and South Dakota, with 9.2

The latest update knocked California just outside the threshold necessary to meet the CDC’s definition of having a low level of community coronavirus transmission, an assessment based on the number of new cases confirmed statewide over the last week as well as the rate at which conducted tests were coming back positive.

Earlier in the day, California and Vermont were the only two states in that exclusive club — which requires a seven-day case rate under 10 per 100,000 residents and a rate of positive test results of less than 5%. https://www.latimes.com/california/s...ssion-rates-us
