Uhhh, L.A.? I mean, Compton and South-Central are generally considered a bit more urban than say, Manhattan. You should be more specific in your "NYC" because there are plenty of parts of NYC that are not at all "urban."

I am assuming you are talking about population density as it relates to income and economic disparity. Otherwise, Chicago would certainly be considered "urban" if you are simply talking about square feet of raw dirt per square mile versus square feet of black top / concrete to compare urbanity.

.
Koreatown's population in LA would fit into this definition of urban perfectly. In fact, it is one of the most densely populated areas in the United States.

What kind of questions is that?

Like downtown LA? I believe LA's central core has more population than all of San Francisco. LA County has 11,000,000 people. NYC has just 8mil. SF is just slightly larger than Long Beach.

Actually, SF is twice the size of Long Beach. San Francisco City/County has a population of approximately 900,000 people, Long Beach is around 460,000

As I said, SF is a little larger than LB. Also, about half the size of "sister city" Brooklyn.

Twice is NOT "a little" larger. What school system did you grow up in?

Is a 400 lbs person a "little larger" than a 200 lbs person?....

Might wanna Google next time before spouting off total nonsense that's easily fact checked....

But back to the OP. Outside of SF proper, you'll need to look to LA (both cities in LACO and "neighborhoods" that are considered part of LA proper for comparable population density. LA has a ton of people, and while the whole metro/megaregion may seem to sprawl on forever and ever, the city and country have many places with high population density. Look above to view that posts that named specific places already.

Now, does density always translate to the vibrant/urban/walkable stereotype most of us think when comparing to places to NYC/Hong Kong/etc? Nope. But if you want crowded/populated in a small space, you will find what you're looking for...

I didn't grow up on fantasy island, that's for sure. Tomato, tomahhhto, big deal. Bottom line is, SF's population is closer to Long Beach than nyc or LA. An apt comparison has been made.
