No it's not completely bad, just a sad commentary on what California has become.
It would be nice to live closer to certain family members, but I won't live there for the expense, the crowds, and the extremist one-party politics which gleefully facilitates much of the madness.
I also happen to like lush greenery that doesn't require irrigation, boundless sources of fresh water, and cool summers with snowy winters that don't require this proud flatlander to live on top of a mountain.
As a blue-collar person, I also don't see any appeal at all living out in the middle of California just for the sake of living in California.
No thanks.

Some posters on here can live in their denial, but California has lost some serious shine over the last 30-40 years.
Since CA is the most populous state in the US (more than 10% of total population) it's not surprising you will find lots of former Californians pretty much wherever you go. If they are happier not being in CA, that's great but it doesn't take anything away from us who like it here.

Not always "lots" and certainly not everywhere.
The point is that there are a LOT of people who used to like CA and no longer do. Of course there are some who never did like it. That indicates something has changed, and not necessarily for the better.
Count me as one who would have more seriously considered it once upon a time, but can't hardly fathom it now.
Slowing down the crowdedness is good, but at what expense?

So let me get this straight.

You don't live in California.
You haven't ever lived in California.
You know some people who once lived in California and didn't like it.

Yet you feel strongly enough about California to hang around & post on the CA-bashing threads. Why? No one is suggesting you move here if you don't like it.

This is all so peculiar. I've heard bad things about Louisiana politics and the weather there is lousy. l can't imagine any circumstance under which I'd live there. But I don't go to the Louisiana forums and try to convince Louisianans that they should hate it too.

I'm not trying to convince you of anything.
The thread is simply "where are Californians moving to?". I just happened to have a little second-hand insight, that's all.
I have quite a bit of family out there and I recently lived in an area that is particularly very popular with ex-Californians.
It's an open forum. Just my two cents. I hardly ever post in the CA forums, so don't worry too much about little ol' me. I have lurked here a time or two since last year because I did consider making the move out there.
For what it's worth, I don't go onto Louisiana forums either, just the one's I've lived in or have interest in knowing more about.

"second hand insight", you mean like once someone told you bad stuff about California?

Well sub, I will point out that while yes it is an open forum and anyone is welcome to post their information and perspectives - your submissions here haven’t focused on “where Californians are moving to.” But rather your biases on why the state is anathema to you, a non-Californian.

Have at it. Knock yourself out. Just understand that there are 40 million people living here and the vast majority do not share your views. Do you feel you are providing residents heretofore hidden enlightenments about a place you’ve never lived?

Just family, coworkers and neighbors (and not just a few) that live there or moved from there.
I've also spent a good deal of time in California and can easily see why people move away.
I don't hate it. I do like it, but would like to love it again.
