So if it's secretly the Chinese government buying all of this land, what's their endgame? Let's hear the conspiracy theories.

Sure would be nice if this was a plan to create jobs and housing to ease some of the Bay Area strain.
It really wouldn’t be that bad of a location for a new tech hub and several thousand McMansions.

I read that the purchasing corporation is now suing the farmers who sold the land for what is effectively a conspiracy to price gouge. And btw, there are companies in DE which will help you form corps (LLCs, etc.) in their state. The reason people do a DE corp isn't just to hide the officers, it's also because it's cheaper than doing it in California. That part of the story isn't unusual and as much as the press keeps beating the point that the government can't pierce this corporate veil, they can.

So does this mean we can sue the car dealerships and gas stations for gouging us?
Sounds pretty frivolous to me.
The price is the price that they agreed upon and nobody held a gun to their head.

If this is the type of group that is moving in I wonder what their next brilliant step will be.
I don’t think I’m a fan.

Ye olde classic legal back-stab.

If they threaten to take the group of farmers selling the land to court they might think they are going to get an easy settlement.
Who wouldn’t want 5-20 percent of that money?
I hope the selling group sticks it to them and doesn’t cave in to the pressure.
FTFF.

Disney?

It reminds me of the story about how Walt Disney company surreptitiously acquired huge tracts of land near present day Disney World in Florida during the early 60s.
