I believe you.

What are you going to do when you are 29, 30, 31, 32 or so and pulling in $100K?

Yes, Cali is a good place to live. I would like to be a permanant resident here.

Default Glad to be back in SoCal

At the risk of repeating what I put in another thread, I'm a lifelong Californian and moved to Virginia a year ago to see if there was someplace better to live. After a year, I'm BACK! Minds are narrower and beltlines are (much) larger out of state.

SoCal is a great place, yeah it's overcrowded but what a cool place. We might relocate to where the density is a little less but still stay close to LA/OC. I'm into 1930's/40'/50's westerns and spend hours watching screenings in LA and scouring the hills for the filming locations. Try doing that in Oregon!

I just spent a weekend on the Central Coast and drove home on Hwy 58 and detoured over 30 miles of dirt roads through the Carrizo Plain Nat'l Monument. Awesome! Yep, I'm staying put in California.

You should check out OC then, 40% of the available housing there is from people that can't seem to afford their homes and are in financial distress.

Distressed homes now 40% of O.C. supply - Mortgage Insider - OCRegister.com

That is the position my son is in now. He has visited us in TX, one in winter and just a few weeks ago and really likes it here. I don't know if he will stay in CA and try to settle down and raise a family but he know what he can get out here for his money at least. CA is a beautiful state and for many the sacrifice is worth it, but for many the decision is elsewhere.

I think this question is asked about any state, in one form or other, in this forum. And most likely people who like where they live will usually, naturally, compliment where they live. But just like any other state, there will be good and bad.
Up in the high desert, housing and cost of living is just a bit cheaper than 'down the hill'. OC and LA might cost a heck of a lot more, but jubs out those parts too, pay a bit more. A lot of people commute, using the metrolink, which helps with the way gas prices are right now, but many like the convenience of not dealing with traffic.
I can only speak for the areas Im familiar with.
