In your opinion - what is the nicest coastal area in Cali?

When I see nice, I'm taking into account alot of things such as -

View -
Facilities - Nearby shops/activities for children
Quality -
Distance - How close to nearest city

Newport? Laguna? Huntington?

Are you only thinking of Southern California, or also the beautiful North Coast? We (northern CA) have some terrific coastal towns, like Santa Cruz, Monterey, Half Moon Bay, Pacifica, Mendocino, Arcata, and so on.

Personally I think it's a split between Encinitas, Laguna Beach and San Clemente.

Beautiful, but without the pretentiousness of Newport or Del Mar.

Newport? Laguna? Huntington?
1. Newport Beach with it's wide range of things to do.
2. Laguna Beach with it's a vibrant tourist economy.
3. Carmel by-the-sea with it's quaint downtown and excellent ocean views near Big Sur.

Carmel is in Monterey County just south of Santa Cruz. Huntington Beach is also nice, but it is flat. (so there isn't a view per-say)
The coastline around HB also has no rocks. Huntington is a surfer town. It has with Bella Terra open air mall, Old World (European village), and a great Main St.

View-Laguna wins by a long-shot. Homes in the hills have endless views of the water...

Facilities-Disneyland, and Irvine.(OC wins by long-shot of most family-friendly county in SoCal)

Quality-Corona Del Mar wins. Small town charm, big city quality.

How close is the nearest city?-lol, OC is one big sprawling city. (1hr to LA, 1hr to SD)

La Jolla was awesome. Very expensive though. Tons of shops, awesome coastline, views everywhere you turn, and very clean.

Northern California coastal areas are beautiful....but bring the fur coat and a heater.

California has a great coastline up and down the coast. Some of my favorites include: La Jolla, Del Mar, Encinitas, Santa Barbara, Point Conception area, Big Sur and others.

You really can't go wrong.
