Default highschools in Grass valley vs. Nevada city

We are moving to the area and my son will be starting highschool. Which is better Bear River or Nevada Union? How are the highschools such as drugs or gangs of any kind? Also any info on just raising kids in the area would be great.

Lot's of pot/hallucinagenics at NU. Less meth than other places so I consider this a victory. Kids are hippy-ish more than other places from my experience. Great football team, division 1 school. Kids from far away (brownsville/Chicago Park/Camptonville) all go to this school.

Bear River is smaller, most kids who attend live in a gated golf course community LOP (not upscale but nice enough). Not sure about drugs there.
