I have a two year old pitbull who is an absolute sweetheart and has been the best companion I could ever hope for. So it came as a frustrating surprise when I found out recently that I need to travel to Hawaii for work purposes, and in the meanwhile my doggy needs to go through a rather elongated rabies waiting period. I currently live in Pasadena and will have a home for my doggy (Angus) for another two months. Sadly, to wait out the incubation period to arrive in Hawaii, he will need to stay in California for another 3 months or so. It pains me greatly to leave him for that long, but I want to do what's absolutely best for him. Does anyone know what would be the best course of action in this situation? Are there inexpensive long-term dog boarding places that anyone knows about? I've looked around at all the animal kennels nearby and they are prohibitively expensive, not to mention that I wouldn't be thrilled about leaving him kenneled up for a long period of time. I really need help here, so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!

You might want to ask your vet, groomer and pet-sitter for any referrals.

I would see if there is someone involved in the breed rescue that could help out by fostering.
