Timmy Hos is a common substitute

After a working stint up north, my brother informed me that some of the locals up there refer to it as Tim Horsec*nt's

It's popular because it's good. It's cheap and tasty and that's what Canadian's like. I'd rather have Tim's over Starbucks any day even if they were the same price. I just like it I guess lol.

I never understood the attraction of THs. It's good locations.... and marketing that has people brainwashed. I haven't set foot in there in 7 or 8 years and I walk by one everyday.

essentially two reason

1) it is cheap
2) It is not American and somehow gives people the false sense of national pride

That being said, the popularity of Tim Hortons is pretty amazing. If you are standing at Yonge/Queen, there is like 6 stores within 10 minutes walking distance.

It is not great stuff, but I like it. Tim Hortons is everything in Canada should be priced at.

Because it's a homegrown, Canadian classic, that has formed into one of the largest coffee/donut cafe chains in the world, and continues to grow. Not to mention, it's both coffee and "timbits" blow dunkin do-nots right out of the water. I hope they continue to expand (hopefully into suburban Chicago ) . Hard to beat.

Good coffee. I don't even like coffee, but I'll drink it from TH.

We have a few Tim Horton's here in SW Ohio, I could guarantee that not one person in the area even knows who Tim Horton was, or even Nathan Horton for that matter.

You surprise me. I guess it's personal taste, but I find their coffee very middle of the road.

Coffee is coffee ...as if people who add cream and sugar are connoisseurs who can tell the difference. Preference is based primarily on branding and atmosphere.

That's like saying chocolate is chocolate, wine is wine etc. The quality varies greatly .Actually even though I don't put sugar in my coffee, I do cream, I don't begrudge people that do, since some wonderful coffee concoctions like lattes require milk and it takes nothing away from the taste of a good brew.
As for sugar, certain cultures, especially in the middle east, sweeten their thick coffees and who am I to argue that it's wrong.
