One of the deceased is my SIL's troop mate. Things always seem to be a degree or two removed.

I lived in Moncton for a bit, years ago. Watching this nightmare on the news seems very surreal. Moncton is such a quiet, friendly place... Never in a million years would I have imagined something like this happening there.

With the heavy law enforcement presence there now, I think they'll find him sooner rather than later. Hopefully they will, anyway. The longer he goes without food or sleep, the more desperate he'll act.

Any info as to how this started? I haven't been able to find any news on how this got started. I hope they nab ( or kill) this guy without any more loss of life.

Maybe not ... he clearly planned ahead and was prepared. What's to say that he dident have a supply of food & water hidden somewhere?

This CBC article mentions (about 2/3 of the way down) that the suspect ambushed the RCMP.
Moncton shooting: Manhunt enters 2nd night - New Brunswick - CBC News

Briefly: RCMP responded to a call about an armed man at a house. They surrounded the house, but the suspect wasn't inside. He was in some nearby woods. He came out of the woods and apparently fired on them, then he walked away and escaped before the backup RCMP arrived.

Great point... I've been reading some statements made by acquaintances of this guy, who all say he'd made some cryptic sort of statements that indicated he'd been planning something like this.

He clearly knows the area well, and there are lots of wooded areas to hide in. He probably doesn't intend to get out of this alive, at least that seems to be what he hinted at with people he spoke to earlier.

Scary.
