Not sure why, but the first names I thought of were

Margaret, Ezekiel, Matthew, Mathieu, Zach, and Heather.

All of these names would definitely make Quebec (and therefore Canada) stand out in North America.

They'd all be very typical in France though.

These are some names that are common in Quebec but not common in France. (All are French-derived, so they are not totally absent from France.)

Older people:

Réjean/Régent (rarer spelling)
Jean-Guy
Ginette

Younger people:

Félix
Émile
Émilie

Well, all names within a particular language "sphere" can be found in any country.

The point of this thread is which ones are more common in Canada, or other countries.

Names like Lorne and Gordon are more common in Canada than in the US.

Names like Meredith, Beau and Tabitha are more common in the US than in Canada.

Names like Basil are common in the UK, not so much in North America.

Odd that i'm being taken to task for bringing Quebec into the equation when it comes to common Canadian names. Why did i bother?
I'll stick to the Doug/Gord and Lorne.

Who's taking whom to task?

It's just a discussion...

As well as last names. My last name sounds " French " and is of course a French word, but it is a place in France and not used as a last name.
I got some very weird looks and some interesting insight to what the French thought about my name. LOL
