When I looked at myself in the mirror earlier, I noticed a pinkish but raw and smooth looking spot on the left side of my tongue. It wasn't there before nor did I notice it earlier today when I brushed my teeth.

Here's a picture (sorry if it grosses you out. My tongue's white from milk.)- http://i1268.photobucket.com/albums/jj561/92sman/471fdc87.jpg?t=1336498158 (broken link)

I don't smoke, do drugs, or drink and I never have. I also drink a lot of water. I'm also 19 years old and don't really know of any family history with this.

I'm feeling panicked over this. What do I do?

I'm not going to click your link, but I really doubt you have "tongue cancer", whatever that is. Give it a day or two and see if it goes away. If not, go see a doctor.

Do you honestly believe that even the most expert medical practitioner on the planet could look at a picture and give you a diagnosis? Make an appointment and go see you doctor. Good luck.

Did you recently eat something really hot that burned your tongue? That's what it looks like to me.

no one other than a doctor can tell you but it sounds like an old fashion sore. Tongue cancer isn't the most common cancer in the world. Why don't you just relax and see what happens in a few days, then, if you are still concerned make an appointment. I think too many of us are getting paranoid about cancers.

No, all I've eaten so far today is cereal. I also drink two glasses of water shortly after I woke up, one with some apple cider vinegar.

-EDIT- typically cereal and bagles for breakfast with water. Chef boyardi and left overs for lunch and the same with dinner. I haven't eaten any spicy food that I remember of except for the pepperoni pizza I ate yesterday.

I wouldn't even look twice at that myself. It is probably something that's a result of what you ate, or the way the roof of your mouth is shaped, or just the way your tongue is.

Bring it up at your regular dental appointment, if it's still a problem.

I did come across something called "geographical tongue". The spot on my tongue looks a bit like this.

Make an appointment to see your dentist. They are trained to spot oral cancer and normally check you for it when you go for a cleaning. Relax, sometimes certain foods we eat or perhaps even coffee will make your mouth sore. The good news is that your mouth heals fast so if it is still sore tomorrow, then for sure go see your dentist.

Don't panic...just go see your dentist.
