Hi guys,

I got a quote on auto insurance from state farm - and was quoted 2400 a year for full comprehensive for 2006 hyundai sonata. I've not had a car/insurance previously as I didn't need to own one. This will be my first car purchase. I'm over 25 with clean driving record. When queried, the lady goes I've not had my driver's license long enough as it was issued last year. I have previously driven on my overseas license and have driver overseas for over a decade.

Anyone with some suggestions on how to tackle this beast?

When DH moved here from England, the only auto insurance that would honor his foreign driving record was AAA.

You can check with other insurance providers who might be willing to give more weight to your foreign driving record in quoting a premium.

Do you live in a no-fault state? Insurance is always high is these states, and you are still young in the eys if the insurance industry and are considerd a high risk.

Try Farmer's or Progressive. I've never had anyone say I haven't had my license long enough; they just ask how long it has been issued. I always tell them 16 and they either have no way to verify or they don't check.

Thanks guys, I'll try Farmer's and Progressive too - the license has the date of issue so the insurance agent took that as the issue date and went on with it when getting the qoute. Wouldn't I have to furnish those details when filing out the application form anyway?

On a Expat forum for "Expats in the US" at Driving & Car Insurance in the US - Page 2 a poster suggested a company called Infinity Insurance at https://www.infinityauto.com/

Good Luck........

Shop around.

For the Prius, Esurance was $8,700 a year and AAA was $1,500. Surprising price range there.
