Feeling stupid, I haven't had to decide whether it's worth it to make a claim on insurance in a long time. We had a hail storm which caused some dings on my 'roof'. There might be a few others I didn't see on the hood or trunk yet.

My deductible is $100 and it would cost more than $100 to fix it.

Depending on your insurance company and how long you've been with them, they may not even raise your premiums ..

I would fix it ... when you go to sell the car, you will get robbed blind if it has hail damage .. that reason alone, is worth even higher premiums. .. unless your 16, there not going to go up that much if at all ... .

I've been with them since I started driving at 16. Not really sure how much that matters. Had a number of claims in my life, but the last one was at least 8 years ago.

Yes, hail damage you definitely want to claim. Should t raise rates since it’s an act of god. If it doesn’t bother you, you can probably pocket the money,

It doesn't bother me. I'd rather have the money in this case. This is an old car I am driving as long as possible. Resale value is of no concern.

In SC, weather related damage would be covered under your comprehensive coverage and not surchargeable. Get an estimate of how much it would cost you to repair it and take it to your ins. company.

I was thinking house insurance in which case I would say no, but for car insurance I would also say no. they might raise your rates and in a year or two whatever they paid will be theirs again with higher rates.

keep in mind all claims go on to your clue report . that is like your credit score but for insurance claims .

things like act of god or broken windshields while your own insurer may not raise you ,when you shop for insurance any claim blemishes you and effects your score .

my jeep buddies used to think their windshield were free to replace . until they shopped for insurance , then the claims haunted them .

you can get a free copy of your clue report once a year . you should run home and auto and make sure it is correct . you are priced based on this info . in fact certain claims follow the property too . you can buy a home and not know that property has been flagged for chronic claims and either not be able to insure it or you will pay a fortune even though the claims were a previous owners .

flood claims as an example tend to stick with the property .

in new york your insurer can't raise you for comprehensive claims but they can drop you . it is then your clue report is very important and those claims are all there dinging you when the next insurer prices you .

Daughter had older car damaged by hail. She did turn it in and ins.. co decide repairs would be more than the value so totaled it and offered her a buy back.
She was happy to do so since it ran well even though it did mean the car would then have a salvage title.

My vote is no. your car roof or your house roof.

yes I had the same thing happen to my roof. No they did not raise my rates but I got hit with a "surcharge" of $150.00 for the next three years.

Thanks for nothing Allstate and when I got mad and started shopping around for other insurance I found out that the claim goes on some type of "record" and other insurance companies look at how many times you've put in for a claim.
