I just saw a news article on large sums of family money being found
in donated items given at The Good Will.
So it reminded me of my situation with dad which bears repeating for others.
- My dad kept petty cash at home.
But to my knowledge not more than $1,000.00 at a time. (as he would say).
It was in one of the kitchen cabinets.
And when I was cleaning out his kitchen to move him in with us.
There was no money there.
Dad was known to have his money in the banking systems.
So I didn't think anything else about it.
Although moving him in with us I did go through his pockets.
Again nothing but a Horse Racing Tick from the track in a old jacket pocket.
Which I kept, as I grew up going to the track with him in that old jacket.
But...then one day on one of my visits with dad at the nursing home.
Sitting outside on a beautiful day.
Out of the blue he looks over at me and says: "Did You Get The Money Out Of The Mattress?"
My heart sank. And for the first time I was glad his mind had quickly faded off again
as it had quickly came out of the blue with this question. Cause I was speechless!
Although he never mentioned it again. I've never forgot the mattress.
So I hope you won't either.
As his mattress was long gone by that time he thought to ask me.
