The outdoor "cage" for the kitties is 5' high, 4' wide and 8' long. They have free access through a kitty door in the bedroom window.
Looking out the bedroom window into the screened cage. It's in the sun from mid afternoon to sundown. It's in the shade all morning.
From outside on the deck. It was hard to get a full pic of it because of the size of the porch. I couldn't back up far enough. After these pics were taken I added the large pan of grasses for them to nibble on.
There's a piece of plywood in the window now with a cat-door.
They even go out in the rain as it now has a plastic cover on it.
just beautiful! I've been thinking we need something on our back deck up north: it's plenty big enough. I've considered some sort of kitty door, but there's no good place for access (that end of the deck is outside the bathroom and the only window is above the shower wall). What state do you live in =^..^= ? The added fact that our nice big deck is in NH also concerns me. But I'd love to have some place that Henry, at least, can be outside (safely).
Very nice! They're going to be loving that I can tell!!
They do love it. They all spend time in it every day, even at night when it's in the 30s and 40s. They also go out if it's raining lightly and not blowing in on the shelves. It cost around $200 to make.

You can always build it on a small platform at any window of your house. A piece of heavy plywood or even thick Styrofoam for the cat door will work.
I live in middle TN. We get snow and ice storms here also, so my husband has a clear heavy duty plastic cover over the top. It lets light in so they have the true feeling of being outside. We don't get the snow you get so don't need as strong as top on it as you would need.
You should see them all stretched out in the cage on a nice warm sunny day.
We love these kitties and spare nothing for their comfort and happiness. With all our kids and grandkids grown and gone, they've really filled a void and brought much laughter and joy into our lives.
Great idea! You could close that window and solve the problem of having a cat!
Yes... I am only kidding.
Never. We start to miss them after awhile when they spend a lot of time out there.
Now they're also spending time in the new Florida room. It was an open front porch not getting much use so we closed it in. It's not heated. They love it out there too. So we put a large cat tree out there for them where they can see out both an east and south window. It's mostly windows. But that room wont be finished on the inside until we get back from Fl in April. At the window from the living room we have the same type cat door set in plywood. They can go in and out at will.
