Yes, cats do come back. I lived in a similar situation and we had one tough cat that lived through many years of dodging coyotes and other big animals. She would leave for up to 3 weeks at a time. I have no idea where she went but she always came back looking exhausted and ragged. She was more of an out door cat though, and came in to be petted at times which is different then your indoor cat. So the possibility is there that he gotten eaten, but don't give up hope yet, it is more then possible he will come back. Also both times we moved to a new house my cat ran off and came back with in a week later. So good luck, keep your eyes out and call his name occasionally and keep checking shelters.

Im glad yours came home....
our Sasha has not.....7weeks now, and still, his little owner is out calling him each and every day....she wont give up. We've still got the signs up and the ads in the paper, still make the rounds as we can in searching and calling for him, but at this point, I think it would be a miracle if he came home.
Its really really sad to see his bowls out on the deck, empty and unused...and even sadder to watch the little one sit out and call for him. She still keeps the "Best Friends" picture of the two of them facing out her window for him. sigh....her birthday is coming up next month, and everytime someone asks her what she wants, she says "For my Sashy to come home"
but its always good to hear about those that DO come home again....each lost kitty that finds his/her way home is a blessing....

I know a family who's cat was gone for a year. The cat was given to the dad as a birthday present. Some years later, it disappeared. The dad got a call from his brother, a vet, on another one of his birthdays. A couple had coaxed the injured cat to their confidence. They called the vet on the tag and took him in. He was skinny and dirty and needed fluids. When he was able to go back home, he immediately went to his feeding spot and demanded food. He remembered where everything was and made himself right at home again.

Oh I am so sorry, I know how you feel. Don't give up hope. I had put the litter box away and all the cat toys and felt hopeless also. Then the day I checked all the shelters again, he appeared. After talking to people and posting this thread I heard cats can come back even a year later. I will pray for your little Sasha
