I was in early grade school when he had his show with the backup dancers that were called "The Gold Diggers".
When "grown ups" would ask me what I wanted to be when I grew up, I'd say "Gold Digger"... assuming they knew I meant one of the dancers... boy did I get some crazy looks with that response.
I guess I would have to say Dean Martin or maybe Tab Hunter. I actually sent him a letter (Tab) inviting him to go to my senior prom with me. He didn't answer. I was really hurt. I thought he could at least send me a form letter of some sort. Obviously I am giving my age away. I really was in love with Nat King Cole but certainly couldn't have a crush on someone of a different race in those days.

Oh and I forgot Robert Mitchem. I was so shocked when my mom tried to tell me he smoked pot. I guess I was about 13, knew a little about pot, knew it was bad stuff but wouldn't accept my hero would do something like that.
Yeah, your hero smoked pot and not only that, he had sex with a minor!
but remember my age, at 13 back in the 50s we were pretty damn innocent so for anyone to tell us anything bad about our heroes was hard to understand. This wasn't today where kids know more about life when they a 10 than we knew when we were 18.
He was a musician, songwriter, comedian, plus he was married to Jane Meadows.
Nowadays, if I had to choose between one of the two Meadow sisters, I'd probably lean a little more towards Audrey.
Don't know if my tastes have changed, or it's just because of of my age....
