Today I inadvertently set my phone down in a place and room I never do and it scared me and took awhile to find.
What are your stories about loosing one and what did you do?
I have thought I lost mine some years ago and realized it was missing late at night after returning home and about ready to go to sleep. It drove me nuts as I searched my apartment at the time and started to get that sinking feeling when I couldn't find it. Then I went into Columbo mode and retraced my steps.
Eureka, when I went back to my car and searched I found it had fallen out of my overcoat pocket and was between drivers seat and seat belt mechanism.
FYI, a good lesson in WHAT NOT TO DO from a friends experience. He was on a weekend trip in Chicago with daughter for some sort of high school athletic tournament and his phone went missing. Being with his daughter and having another phone with the GPS finder feature he was able to drive to the address where it showed up. Not a nice area of town and knocked on the door asking about a phone. Needless to say, the guy who answered never acknowledged a phone as being in that location and then went into menacing mode when he insisted because the GPS said it was there. He didn't bother with police as he was out of state and knew it wouldn't be a priority for them. He called carrier to notify and disable it and had to go through the hassle of new set up.
Left in a store by the cash register - first time ever since 1998
Went there 4 hrs later (didn't miss it THAT long... lol) and the clerk returned it to me. The phone was wrapped in a receipt that I also left there.
BTW: my phone has a message on the lock screen to call alternate number when found but they didn't turn the phone on to see. They said they would inspect the phone by the end of the day.
Left at a gas station counter once. Logged in to FIND MY PHONE and went and got it. Today, if I lose it in my house I just say "Ok, Google, Find my Phone" and it starts ringing.

You were luckier than me. Halfway home I realized I had left my phone in the shopping cart. I rushed back, but someone had already taken it. I did check at the grocery store's service counter. Several phones there, but not mine.
Had a car accident that was serious enough to deploy air bags. Somehow my phone flew off of its cradle and ended up in the gauge cluster behind the airbag deployed and deflated over it.
I spent hours looking for it... gave up and bought a new one.
A week later, the insurance adjuster took a look at the car in the junk yard.... he had to move the bag aside to take a look at the odometer and found my phone.
Unfortunately, the phone wasn't the same even if it showed no signs of physical damage.. probably took a pretty serious jarring.. It would randomly reboot.... So I ended up using the new phone instead.
I'm just glad the phone didn't hit me in the face... The air bag must have deployed faster than the flying phone and got caught behind it... I lifted off my seat and hit my head on the upper window sill and the post I hit after broke through the quarter panel and bruised my ankle... All in all.. walked away with a slight limp and headache.. all good...
