I am a young wife and mother of a toddler, and I was hoping to be able to find a safe neighborhood to live with my family.
My husband is in the Air Force, so we want to be able to be at least somewhat close by to the base. However, if the neighborhoods around the base are unsafe then I will not hesitate to sacrifice convenience for safety.

Wescott Plantation, Taylor Plantation, Kings Grant, White Hall are a few neighborhoods close to the base to look into.

A good friend of mine is a Pilot and he just bought in Mount Pleasant. Another person I know- on here- is a renter and she rents in Mount Pleasant. It's not too far of a commute, close to the beach and very safe.

My hubby works on CAFB, we just moved to Mount Pleasant, the commute is about 40 mins, depending on traffic, can take longer or less time. Of all the Af bases we have been stationed at the areas close to base have generally not been that good, I am a newbie here, so cannot really say what it is like here, your child is still young, but depending on how long you are planning on being here, you may want to think about school districts too, I know that Dorchester 2 and Mount pleasant have good ones.

Good luck with your move, if you need any more help/info, just ask, the people on this forum have been a great help to me

The Park at Rivers Edge is a gated community in North Charleston near the base and also off Dorchester Road. It's beautiful and has a pool, tennis courts, walking paths and a childrens' play park. There are quite a few rentals available there.
