My family and I want to move to the coast and live within walking distance to the beach. I was thinking of a good place would be IOP area. I have been looking on Craigslist and Post & Courier for rentals, and there seems to be a lot of vaction and some short term rentals. I am open for suggestions of areas if there is a better beach to live on. Since we work from home commuting is not the main concern, but being able to drive in and out of Charleston is important. With IOP being close to Mt Pleasant, I am hoping that would serve all our need.
What would be the best way to find a long term rental?
(I was thinking of finding an agent to help us look around when we visit)
(around $1500 per month and at least 1,000 sq ft.) give or take
What other challenges present itself living on the coast in the summer and winter months?
We do have a back up plan if this does not work out, but right now I am looking to see what is out. Thanks for all your help.
Contacting a Realtor is the best way to find rentals on mls. Mount Pleasant or IOP are great areas to look. 1000 for a 2 bedroom is low for this area but maybe possible. About a month before your moving is the time to look at rentals. Owners won't hole a rental for longer (usually). Rentals are hard to find right now in Mount Pleasant but a 2 bedroom may be easier.
There are no issues of being on IOP except during holidays and some weekends the traffic is bad with beach goes. My MIL and FIL live on IOP full time and love it.
Thanks for all the help, I will look into the VRBO and Homeaway site. I was possible thinking of a short term in the off season and then try and find something for the longer term if everything works out. What about traffic off the island?
