Hi,
We are looking for a nice neighborhood ranging from 800 to 900 thousand for a house. We are a young couple with no kids and looking for a fun place to live with nice weather. Please give us some direction. We are coming to visit next year. We need to have easy access to a hospital because that is were we both work. We like newer homes. We are also considering Denver Co.

In the price range in which you are looking you would have many housing and community options in the Charleston area, one good one of which would be in the town of Mt. Pleasant not far from the beach, the Charleston Historic District, shopping, restaurants and an excellent East Cooper Hospital. Roper Hospital will be building a hospital in Mt. Pleasant as well as East Cooper Hospital a new facility in the near future. I'on is a very convenient community which may appeal to the two of you. Great architecture and a fun community in which to live. In your price range, you might also want to consider Daniel Island, although it does not have quite the convenience in terms of shopping and restaurants as Mt. Pleasant. The Charleston historic district might be a consideration although you would have much fewer newer homes from which to choose than you could find on Daniel Island and in Mt. Pleasant. I feel sure that you would love the Charleston area and find many activities of interest and friendly outgoing people with similar interests.

Many members of the medical community also live on James Island, which is very easily accessible to the downtown hospitals by the James Island Connector...would take you 5 minutes to get to work (and very little traffic). James Island has several very nice communities such as Stiles Point Plantation and Parrot Creek, among others. You could also afford most of the historic downtown areas (stay south of Calhoun, towards the Battery), which is loaded with charm.

The Charleston Historic District would be a great choice, you're within walking distance to all that downtown Charleston has to offer. You could also check into neighborhoods like Hampton Park, Wagener Terrace, Longborough and Lownde's Point (the last two are new custom built neighborhoods, on the Charleston peninsula, overlooking the Ashley River). All of these are within 5 minutes to the hospitals downtown by car and less than 15 minutes by bike.

I don't know where you are from, but housing prices are generally alot cheaper in the Charleston greater area (except for downtown).

A 8-900k home will cost you are fortune in insurance being so close to the coast, if you can get it. You can purchase a beautifull new or newer home in the 4-600k range in many of the subdivisions in the Mount Pleasant area and bank or invest the balance.

It is never to early to plan for retirement.

Hampton Park and Wagener Terrace and Hampton Park are convenient areas but the homes for the most part are older and you expressed an interest in newer homes.Lowndes Point is going to cost over $1,000,000.Longborough is a new neighborhood with homes prices generally in the $800,00 + for more than a 2500 sqft. home. Stiles Point Plantation is another convenient location, but again with older homes. Some Parrot Creek homes are newer, but may not offer you the choice of homes that you might like. The historic area of Charleston is lovely, but again, few newer homes, very high cost per square foot and even in the price range in which you would be looking not a lot available in a newer home or even an older home that does not need to be updated or something not needing continued maintenance. I agree with Condorll that Mt. Pleasant will give you much if not everything that you may be looking for for less than $800,000.
