If choosing to teach within the CCSD, what schools do you recommend? Which should you stay away from?

Now when you say crime is rampant, is that within the schools or the neighborhoods the schools are in?

yes the CCSD is really that bad, the bottom in the country but not due to the teachers... the teachers hands are tied when it comes to any kind of discipline in order to keep students in line

several white teachers have recently successfully sued the CCSD for reverse racism because the CCSD leaders turn their heads the other way while the white teachers were getting severely verbally abused and physically threatened by young black thugs with long police records that they won't kick out of school

Charleston School Teacher settles for $200,000 « South Carolina Council of Conservative Citizens

some areas of Chas Co are OK, but for the most part you'd be underpaid unappreciated and overworked/stressed if you worked for them

the last superintendent was a lying adultress that managed to get a contract void of the moral clause that's in every teachers contract, and wouldn't you know it a few months later she ( a single woman ) announced she was several months pregnant... with a married mans child, what a great bunch of leaders eh?

In the neighborhoods the schools are in. I think most people on here would recommend the schools in Mt. Pleasant since they are in the CCSD.

it's called Summerville because hundreds of years ago during the "summer" way before penicillin the wealthier would come inland to this "vill"age to escape malaria that was rampant from the mosquitoes ( our state bird ) and the biting gnats that infested the areas near the water and marshlands

hence the name "Summerville"

and yes there will be tons of teaching jobs here, I'd recommend you stay out of the Charleston county school systems though... some googling it will explain

Yeah, sorry about that. I noticed it right after I posted the thread, and couldn't change it. Right now I'm living on the Cambridge/Somerville border up here, so it's been kind of ingrained into my head.

I saw the stuff on the school systems, doesn't sound too good. I was figuring with all the private schools down there it wouldn't be too hard to find one that I could get into. Or at least... that's the plan.

should be easy to get into the private schools

they are growing by leaps and bounds because the public schools are so bad anyone that can afford it is jumping ship from public and going private

my kids go to Northwoods Academy, it's a Christian private school in N.Chas that's moving to in between Summerville and Goose Creek within the next few years... goes from K-12

Pinewood is another great private school in Knightsville right outside of Summerville, both schools have had to add on recently and stay at max

good luck with your choices, this place will grow on you

there's an old saying that always rings true, once you've lived here for awhile and move away you always come back

some get here and can't stand it... they move away only to come back a few years later humbly admitting they liked it more than they realized, even if a lot of things are still backwoods/wards here
