Our plan changed a couple of years ago or we would have not considered moving to our current location. Few in-network providers are on the Grand Strand (we have asked, and not many are willing to join our plan either). However, there are long list of doctors, specialists, labs, etc. listed for Charleston. Before we make another change--how's medical going for all you out-of-state people? We have another 10years to go before my Medicare coverage kicks in, and we really can't afford to carry additional supplements on top of the Ohio State Plan that we pay (a small amount) into. Charleston seems great and we really wouldn't mind the move. My husband's permenantly disabled from a work-related accident. While we can just drive to Charleston for an occassional appointment, we couldn't keep it up for long term treatment. Our PHCS said they can't do anything else for us. Comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

At least you have a PPO plan which means if you need to go out of network you can for an additional out of pocket costs. Why don't you see if you can set up telephone appointments with your doctors from Ohio so you don't have to go out of network. Also you could look into finding a Naturopathic Doctor (an N.D. ) who's experienced in helping people get well enough so they no longer need their Rx's. They usually just show you ways you can strengthen your immune system by making changes in your diet and possibly adding natural medicines that don't conflict with your current medications and in weeks or a few months, your regular M.D. is amazed and plassed to tell you you non longer need to take XYZ prescription (s).
If you can find an N.D. to help you get your robust health back you don't have to worry about how many conventional doctors are in or out of your PPO network because you'll have your robust health! Also, insurance may or may not pay for the services of an N.D but if they can help you get off your drugs and get your health back( and save you the cost of co-pays on your Rxs for the rest of your life) it is WELL WORTH spending a few $100 on 2-3 consultations and maybe a tad more on natural medicines.
If the truth be told there would be no health care crisis if most people did this. People would get over their chronic and degenerative diseases including the ones the medical establishment says "there are no cures" for MEANING THEY, THE MEDICAL ESTABLISHMENT, with very narrow training only in allopathic medicine (strictly drugs and surgery to treat symptoms) HAVE NO CURE. This does not mean that doctors of natural medicines don't understand causes of disease and can't help a person fight off whatever ails them by helping the person get healthy.
Sorry for the long diatribe, but it is TRUE. There are choices of ways to treat chronic and degenerative condtions in this country. However, since there is so much money to be made by conventional M.Ds simply prescribing drugs to deal with symptoms, the last thing they want people to know is that they could actually get well enough so they wouldn't need their Rxs if they only went to a Naturopathic Doctor who has the training to help them do this.
I know there is at least one N.D. in Charleston and many more in Wilmington, North Carolina.
