Hi. Like many posters on this board, my wife and I are considering making the move to Charleston. I'm hoping a post like this assist everyone else in a similar situation.
What are the top 5 (or more) things you LOVE most about living and Charleston?
Also, please see similar thread about things you HATE most about living in Charleston.
1. Weather - where else can you smile when other people around you are complaining how cold it is?
2. People - It may take awhile to let one's guard down, but people genuinely, want to help you.
3. History - Just about everything in America has a connection to Charleston in some way. The Civil War, sure. But the Revolutionary War is even more in this land.
4. Beaches - Typically, with sand that you can ride your bike on, they let trucks on as well. Not around here.
5. Downtown Charleston - With two major colleges keeping it jumping, it still remains a very genteel & beautiful city.
Security: Fell very safe here - Mt pleasant area and the greater part of Charleston
Down town is charming
Flying out of Charleston is becoming more reasonable, eventually! great small airport
Seacoast Community Church
1. History of the area.
2. The beach is close by.
3. My family and DH's family are natives and we all still live here so we don't have to travel during the holidays.
Ok so #3 doesn't mean a thing to you but you asked what I loved. lol
I love so many things about living in this area that I'm finding it hard to pick just 5!
Okay, here are the 5 that first come to mind:
1. Weather. First thing I notice when I wake up in the morning is the beautiful sunshine. For someone like me who suffers from Seasonal Affective Disorder, it's such a blessing.
2. The Food. Wow. The restaurant scene here is truly impressive. From Sunday Brunch at the Woodlands to Frank Lee's Southern Lowcountry cuisine with a touch of Asian influence at SNOB, I'm grateful I can experience it all.
3. The People. The gracious and friendly residents of the Lowcountry have overcome my usual aloof and suspicious demeanor and reminded me how good it feels to be friendly and polite to everyone I meet. Also, there is a quiet elegance to the natives here that I envy.
4. The Beaches. Not only are they a short distance away, they are beautiful and clean. Everyone throws their trash in the trashcan. What a concept.
5. The big, beautiful, blue Carolina sky. What else can you say?
Although I have a few complaints about Charleston I still call it home and of course find tons of things to love.
1- The Sky ---- Living in WV for 15 years in an industrial county I had forgotten how beautiful the sky is....In Charleston it is clear and blue.
2 - Things to do - In WV if you did not drink or gamble you had nothing to do. In Charleston you can spend an entire day with your family for little or no money. The Battery (which is full of history and beauty) When my children were young I would take them there and talk about the history and roots of Charleston and when they got older we spent hours on the pier just discussing life. It doesn't get better than that.
3- People - We do show a hospitality here that even if on the surface makes it great for a day out.
4- Beaches - well they speak for themselves
5- Again, unlike WV, there are plenty of job opportunities for my growing children.
Great Question...I could go on for a long time, but the top five...
1.The beach-nothing beats the peace and tranquility that you find from just walking the beach and staring out at the ocean.
2.Great Place to raise a family-between the schools, activities, churches and other families with similar values, my wife and I couldn't have asked for a better place to raise our four kids.
3.Weather-of course everyone else has said this one too, but it is tops.
4.The country-Charleston gets a lot of credit for the beaches and downtown, but if you have kids that like the outdoors, ponds, fishing, hunting etc...you can't beat all of the land and property that is found in Dorchester and Berkeley county.
5.Culture-Spoleto, the Performing Arts Center, the Guillard all offer amazing events.
You'll love it here.
1. GARDENS. I love other peoples, I love mine.
2. I love the market, the street muscians, the smell from the candy shops, the rose boys.
3. Sunsets from a sailboat on the river.
4. October. the air is cooler, the ocean still warm.
5. The location, close enough to Savannah, Myrtle Beach, Charlotte, etc. for weekend trips.
