We have been noticing some kind of black haze blowing east from an area upstream from the paper plant. When driving on 526, there are several smoke stacks in the distance beyond the paper plant. Does anyone know what industries these are? Whatever is burning up there, it's drifting over north Mount Pleasant all the way over to Hamlin. Would be good to know what's in the air.

There was a open field fire yesterday at the intersection of 26 and 526...I passed it while driving back from the airport... probably the source of the smoke you saw.

This is the time of year when the US Forest Service begins to burn the underbrush in the national forest. Smoke in the air means spring is on the way. I noticed that there were several areas on the burning schedule this week.

I was up at the farm in Wando yesterday ...and you are totally correct .... controlled burn in the forest was happening ... lots of smoke as well.. more than normal so some of it might be due to the wet weather weve been having..
