You could park at the Battery. The CofC library lot has certain hours that you don't need a pass. Matter of fact, you don't need one for the entire weekend as long as it's not in a teacher-only marked spot.

There's also side street parking. The port lot on Concord next to Tabbuli's always has spots as well.

As the other poster said, Uber to/from airport and a few trips to Mt P and you've paid for your car and then some. Really, it is SO easy to drive here.
Looks like a rental is best for me. Have to go with a near wash of costs and convenience. It seems that my plans translate into a savings of only a few bucks. Appreciate everyone's insight. Nobody's opinion is wrong, but all those opinions helped me make a final decision.

Thank you all!

It amazes me the people who post here that have no clue.

Uber round trip from airport is maybe $35. Uber round trip to Boone Hall is $25.

Rental per day, real cost, after airport fees and taxes is at least $30. And that's for the smallest car they have. Now add $20 per day for parking. That's $50 a day.

Trolley around downtown, free. Uber on the peninsula is $5.50. Y'all obviously don't have real world experience doing this. When I drove for Uber, tourists were constantly lamenting their rental.

Uber X to Boone hall, from their website $14-$19. Ok so $35. Still one day of car and parking basically. Not to mention if you want to go ANYWHERE else in Mount Pleasant while you are out that way.

Airport - $18-22 from their website. So another $40. If you take Uber X and don't need something larger. Another day of rental paid for.

There isn't that much to do on the Peninsula for 6 days that you wouldn't think about taking a drive to a beach, a plantation, the outlets, etc.

Relax. If someone was only here for a weekend then a car wouldn't be necessary. It's also a year away, lol so he has time to change his mind.

I'm fully relaxed. You just aren't using facts. Cheapest car on Expedia right now for that time frame is going to cost $50 per day, total cost. $20 to park at Vendue. $70 per day.

Of course, the OP's moniker of surgeon means plenty of money. But I'd still ride share. I see tourists trying to drive downtown every day. It is a nightmare. Especially in that compacted area around Vendue. If I'm staying at Vendue, I'd much rather take the water taxi to PP.

The port lot by Tabbuli's is packed on weekends. The CofC library shouldn't be suggested for someone staying at Vendue. Parking on the Battery is time limited.

Those are facts.

That's why I said use priceline. I have never booked a full price rental car from a website because I know you can get them cheaper (Maybe not $20, but $30ish).

I wouldn't drive around the Peninsula either, on board using other transportation down there. But if you travel anywhere out of downtown it is a fact that you need a car unless you only have one destination in mind. Say they decide to go to Kiawah or the tea plantation/ winery/distillery. Or to plantation, or to Boone Hall and then want to go to Sullivan's for lunch. Those would add up very quickly.

If you fly in on Friday night and out on Sunday then I fully get your point, but 6 days lends itself to getting in the car and seeing more of the surrounding areas.

Doesn't the Battery has a two hour time limit for non-residents. But I didn't/don't find parking that expensive downtown. It all depends what your reference point is .

We've given the OP plenty to digest. Luckily, there are plenty of folks who visit that like the ride share to the plantation or beach. I did it a lot. Not Kiawah though. They don't let lowly Uber drivers through the gate.

Didn't you say there's a trolley? There is, and it picks up on Calhoun like a minute walk from the library lot. They wouldn't have to walk all the way back and forth to Vendue. And even if they did, it's not a bad walk both scenery and distance wise.

That said, that's not what I was suggesting. I think the lot would be good spot to leave the rental and go explore during the weekend day. Same for the Battery.

I've never experienced any issues with the Tabbuli lot, so it just depends.
