As far as list of priorities for government changes, this seems pretty far down the list.

It was working on Wednesday, our pool company checks it every time they come out to service the pool. So it's not like it was down a long time. I am sure if you were to do a VOIP line and DHEC found out the fine would not be so pretty.

It's the same in Charleston County, It happened at the pool on the 4th of July! But, they got around it somehow, and opened the pool 2 hours later. Sorry that happened. But, A cell phone is never as reliable as a landline. Cell phone's are not reliable in emergencies.

This was 100% true the other day when all of ATT's cell service went down in most of the state due to a road construction crew digging before calling.

I guess some don't understand that 911 on a cell does not necessarily use your carrier. It will use whatever carrier is available. You don't even need a valid service to dial 911. Considering how many times the AT&T landline has gone down in our pool I don't consider it more reliable. The telco's don't want to maintain that old school copper any longer and it shows. The service is 2nd rate.

Typically POTS phone lines are more reliable than VOIP. POTS lines will work when there is an area blackout which VOIP will not.
