One of the prior owners where I live added soil so they could grow grass in the back yard. This causes the water to build up on the concrete patio. We installed gutters, so the water doesn't get almost as high as the door anymore, but it still comes to the door during heavy rain. I don't think a french drain will work because you can see the lawn is higher than the patio.

I am thinking of digging up the lawn to make it the height it should be and installing sod. Our unit is the only unit where the water pools up at the back door. I have walked the neighborhood during heavy rain to look at other patios and none of them had water that close to the door. We will do the work ourselves. I have never dealt with sod, so I don't know what the best type for the area is. Any suggestions? Any suggestions where to buy it around Mt. Pleasant? I saw that Home Depot has some. We will call 811 before doing anything though to make sure we don't dig into any buried wires. We have a very small yard, so it won't be too much work for us.

We just put down St Augustine sod. Does very well in this climate. We get our’s from Lowe’s in Town Center (Mt.P). Call ahead because their shipments go fast this time of year. If they run out, they can tell you when they expect the next truck.

Depends on how much sun. St. Augustine is good for shaded areas, Zoysia does well in sunny areas. The blade characteristics are different between the grasses. You may want to look at that. Zoysia is a creeping type of spreading grass which can be desirable, I'm not sure abut St. Augustine. St. Augustine is less tolerant of over watering and certain pests (cinch bugs), but does tolerate salt water better.

Centipede is what we've used successfully.
Be aware that those shipments to Lowes go quickly! We had to "reserve" once. Do call and ask when the truck will arrive so you're there that day.

We have had great success with Saint Augustine sod in both full sun and shaded areas.
One product I would not recommend are plugs. Tried them and they were awful.
