After getting my RN next year my long term boyfriend and I are looking to relocate to SC. We are coming down in October to check out some areas so your input would be wonderful!

Here is what we're looking for:
1. low crime, quiet neighborhood
2. tolerable commute to a major hospital for me to work
3. house prices that aren't driven by tourists
4. within close (20 mins away) proximity to stores/restaurants.
5. good public school district

Thank you so much for your help!

Ideal home would be 3+ bedrooms, 2+ baths, 1/4+ acre lot. Price of no more than $250,000. Other than that, no "must haves." We are willing to put money into the house to remodel.

As for hospitals, I'm not set on any of them yet.

James Island, West Ashley, Summerville would all be good areas, Mount Pleasant would be great but getting that sq ftg for the price may be a challenge...

It's really going to depend on your hospital choice. If it's MUSC, there are some good buys on James Island that you could retro-fit. If up around Summerville or Trident hospital, there are tons of options.

I don't think housing will be the issue for the two of you. I believe it's going to be a 'feel' thing on the neighborhood & the public schools.

don't forget to get a pre-approval letter from a lender as soon as you can, it's very important now to understand the changes in lending practises, as well as have a realtor inform you of the latest incentives for home buyers and the new FHA guidelines! good luck!
