Looks like the rumors are confirmed regarding the Colombia Gas building.
Quote:
After less than six months on the market, the building housing TC Energy's offices in Kanawha City has been sold.
Eliott Borris, broker of Vandalia Real Estate in Charleston, announced the sale of the building and property at 1700 MacCorkle Avenue, SE in Charleston last week.
According to property records, Larry Haddad Associates of Charleston is the former owner of the property. Documents on file with the Kanawha County Assessor's office indicate the property was sold on Feb. 28 to Active 55 LLC for $14,000,000.

Active 55 LLC is based in South Charleston, and the Haddad company is a Charleston-based real estate and leasing company.
I don't have a subscription to the Gazette and they might mention it in the article but it looks like Active 55 is Allen Bell. 900 on Lee, Eagle View, etc.

That's what I figured. They had huge success with 900 on Lee, and therefore probably would to repeat that to some degree. Obviously this doesn't have the benefit of being downtown.
The issue with United is they now have a dual headquarters here in the Northern Virginia/ DC area. Their main acquisitions as of late have all been DC area based banks- it doesn't seem like they are expanding much in West Virginia.
I firmly believe though that there could be additional demand for downtown living in Charleston.
To be fair, PNC and FNB have closed numerous branches in the Pittsburgh area, and have expanded far from PA- but are still bringing operational jobs to Pittsburgh. United has supposedly done the same, I read an article regarding United's rapid growth around DC, to which they claim increases the footprint at its Charleston HQ, and still employs the majority of its employees in Charleston at ~ 300, and an additional 800 or so across WV.
I think the best bet for a 20-story bank HQ of that nature would come from WesBanco moving its HQ from Wheeling, which seems feasible. Wesbanco employs more people in general than United, and their HQ alone employees a couple hundred more than United's. Wesbanco also seems to be expanding westward, so a Charleston HQ would center it. Wesbanco bringing 500 corporate banking jobs to downtown Charleston in a new modern high rise would definitely be substantial.
A "Financial District" in Charleston would be cool.
For a while I have stewing over ideas for Cross Lanes. I think that a big development project there would be a huge success. I have created a new Town Center that utilizes a bunch of the casino's land. One thing that this development involves is the elimination of the dog track. It will happen eventually, so they might as well make the most of the land. That would also get rid of the need for the dog kennels. There's enough land on that side of the highway to really build something impressive.
Kanawha County Schools plans to use electric buses in 2025 with the implementation of new buses being produced at the Green Power Motor plant in South Charleston.
While details are not final, Kanawha County Schools could receive as many as 28 or 29 battery-powered buses in the push for cleaner and greener fuel alternatives, transportation director Jason Redman said. The plan is to get those buses on the road as soon as possible after they are delivered, he added.
The buses will be valuable additions to the Kanawha County Schools fleet, Superintendent Tom Williams said. That those buses are manufactured in Kanawha County — at a facility that employs KCS alumni — makes the addition even more poignant, he said.
