Holy crap! This story makes me feel comfindent in my decision to move to the Charlotte area.
Charlotte is a big city now, with it has come some big city crime. We are no worse, and in some cases better than other large cities. If you know what general areas to avoid, and take the kinds of precautions you would in ANY big city - you will be fine.
I think it may be a No-No for a realtor to come straight out and tell you an area is bad, rather they need to beat around the bush. Could be wrong though.
That's why I am not doing it, but would love for a Non-Realtor to do it!
Is that a hint??? LOL
Seriously, it's kind of complicated as some areas really are okay, though they tend to be near other areas I wouldn't ever recommend. So you really can't say for instance "avoid all of east Charlotte" - because east Charlotte does have Chantilly, Plaza Midwood, and places like Robinson Church Rd. But I am happy to help people who want to know about a specific address or neighborhood they are interested in - just don't want to generalize too much, ya know?
you can plot the address on the police departments website and get crime data
That can be helpful, but unfortunately won't tell the whole story. For instance, some people might need to know to avoid a certain area because of a traffic issue, or a smell issue, or that there have been too many foreclosures in the neighborhood they are looking at - that kind of thing.
This is truly why I come here at all, to tell people what, if anything, I know about particular areas or neighborhoods that realtors cannot tell them. This is one way I do some volunteer work!
