Ok, New York has Pizza and Bagels so what delicious foods should I try while in NC?

We are thinking of relocating there and we will be down to visit next month for the first time. Let me know! Also, anything special or fun that I shouldn't miss?

Well, for starters, NC is known for its pork barbeque. I would suggest in Charlotte you don't want to miss having some at Bill Spoon's Barbecue (704-525-8865) 5524 South Blvd. Voted the best of the best many times

I'm looking forward to crawfish when I get there! Also, being only 90 minutes from Columbia, SC where I went to school, I know that there must be some good southern eats for biscuits, country fried steak, and that good ol southern sausage gravy mmmm yum. If you havent had the chance, try some grits with anything you want in them. Sausage and maple syrup in grits is delicious oooo-weee haha.

Oh man, Bill Spoon's ROCKS!! Also everyone knows about Price's Chicken Coop on Camden in SouthEnd. Charlotte staple that has been featured on a couple TV shows, but you have to get it to go. Be sure to check hours of operation of both Bill Spoon's and Chicken Coop...kind of different from other restaurant hours. Oh, and the Penguin for burgers. Some may say the last two are "dives" but mmmmmmm......

I'm hungry now.

This restaurant just opened in Blakeney off Rea Rd with Southern "Lowcountry cookin'" on the menu. I haven't eaten there yet as they only serve dinner and the night we went they were packed. Definitely make reservations if you want to go. But, check out the menu - didn't see crawlfish, but they do have shrimp and grits and greens!

Has anyone tried Mertz Heart and Soul on College Street, right across from Blue and the Hearst Tower? Supposed to be good low-country stuff on the menu. I have not been there yet, I am going to try to go this week.

Five words...fried chicken and mashed potatoes!!!! Absolutley the best I have had since mom's Sunday chicken!

Another favorite is Lupies on Monroe Road in Elizabeth neighborhood near town. Lupie cooks everything from scratch-uses fresh veggies in summer for her veggie plate (be sure to make one of your "veggies" mac n cheese-lol!). My favorite thing there is chili mac- it is a huge plate of sphegetti smothered in chili. I get it 1.2 & 1/2 chili-half cincinatti (sweet) half texas (hot).....just right!!!
