This story pops back up every couple of years. We even had a thread about it last year: Zoo in Charlotte? I read about the guy in charge of the whole thing, and I think he's extremely shady.
I just hope if they come to Charlotte with a zoo that they do the zoo like the North Carolina Zoo. I hate to see unhappy animals. The Knoxville Zoo in Tennessee is one of the most depressing places I have ever been. The animals have to hear I-40 traffic continually and you can see they are stressed. Putting animals in small cages so people can stick their faces in the animal faces is cruel.
I agree with Gumbo. An aquarium would be nice. And with the NC Zoo so close, it doesn't make too much sense to have another one. Its just my opinion though.

With the largest aquarium in the world only a few hours away, I don't see an aquarium coming here. And we have two zoos within a couple hours, so I don't know how important it is to have one right here. I like both, so I'm not against either coming here, if they're done well and take care of the animals appropriately.
Just visited Brookfield zoo in the Chicago area. SO MUCH better than anything down here. At one time, it was the second-largest zoo in the country, not sure if it fits in that category anymore. In my opinion, unless they were to bring a Brookfield-type of zoo here, it would not be worth the bother. (NOTE: it's a conservationist zoo; they specialize in saving almost extinct species)
I would much rather see an aquarium myself. Even though Atlanta has one, I think there is enough space between Charlotte and Atlanta to support it. However, the zoo in Asheboro and in Columbia, is tough. Although, if its done right, it would be nice to have both.
600 E. 4th Street is where I think they should build it
