Wow an organization that relies solely on donations from people giving that much compensation for their executives?

I'm so glad I gave up weekends volunteering for United Way.

That's the scam going on with MANY 'non-profits'.

I think we have had United Way bashing threads in the past. I soured on them a long time ago... specifically after 911 when I dashed off a big check to United Way fund for 911 victims only to find that they were using those donations for general purposes. We now give mostly locally - to local charities that we know and see doing good in the community and they know us and appreciate our support.

I agree and also try to give only to small, local charities. You still have to be careful though - I learned just yesterday that Second Harvest Food Bank takes donated items and SELLS them to other local food banks. No thanks! They won't be getting any more donations from me.

I will never give another cent to the United Way and I can't understand those that do.

I completely agree. I give directly to the groups I want to support and will never give to United Way again.

Ms Pace-King and that whole situation is just disgusting.

United Way bashing aside - Ms. King basically was given a payout after engineering what basically amounted to embezzlement and then suing the United Way for "discrimination". I am absolutely disgusted by her and the whole situation. I kind of hope she eventually dies broke and penniless and facedown in a gutter somewhere.

I'm completely surprised that anyone gives to this organization any more. Of course that's aside from the poor suckers that are coerced to give by their employer!
