Ok. I went on a mad search to find southern style bread pudding the other night and absolutely no restaurant I went to had it. Now I am looking for the TRUE bread pudding with raisins and the creamy (sometimes burbon flavored) sauce on top. No chocolate bread pudding, or something with a twist, just the regular old fashioned kind. It is my absolute FAVORITE desert and I just simply cannot find it. I was even reduced to trying to make it myself, which needless to say, did not come out right at all. Someone help! I am assuming maybe a southern style "dive" restaurant may have it. But I have tried Lupies and they only had chocolate I think. Ok who's got suggestions????

You might have to try Cracker Barrel. Im not sure if they have made it a every day item but they make it from scatch with coconut and raisin. They do not use Borbon since it is a family restaurant but they do make the sauce out of coconut, water sugar mixture.
If you go that option I would call before heading out also call The Landmark Diner.

I think they have it too but I wanted to try a local place first. I will call the Landmark Diner too. Where are they in Charlotte?

Mmmmmm, bread pudding. It has recently occurred to me that a lot of the food I like is actually Southern in origin, and the reason I like it and so many people I know don't is because my grandparents (who did all the cooking) were raised in the South.

Boudreaux in NoDa has a good bread pudding. Here's how they describe it on their menu:

~ Bread Pudding ~
Vanilla, Nutmeg, & French Bread soaked in a rich egg cream mixture, baked with pecans, & topped with a brandy Chantilly cream

There used to be a place in the Arboretum called The Cajun Yard Dog that had great Bread Pudding. As far as I know they are still there.
