Thanks to those who tried to rep me. I'm just passing on what I know, and I'm very passionate about certain things, like gun safety. A short story:

Several years ago a female friend had been bugging me to take her to the range. I'd been avoiding it because of how flighty she is, and I just knew there would be problems. But I gave in and drilled her on gun safety, using my rule from the post farther up. We went through it over and over, until she started to whine , which I'd expected. Of the many scenarios we went through, one was about the gun misfiring. I told her if she pulls the trigger and nothing happens to hold the gun firmly, pointing downrange, and I would get one of the employees to help us.

You can see this coming by now, I'm sure. She hadn't fired 10 rounds, when one didn't fire. I was moving towards her to reinforce the previous lesson, when she turned towards me, holding the gun loosely pointed right at my gut. I grabbed it, and screamed at her to get an employee. She did, and he cleared the round. I was still raging when we hit the parking lot and I blew up on her then. She just couldn't get it through her silly head that what happened is exactly how "tragedy at local gun range" headlines are made.

Years later, that has come up in conversation with friends, and she still doesn't get that I could be dead because she didn't heed what I told her. She says "yeah, I guess I made a mistake, but nothing happened". GRRRRRR

Bad enough if that had been a teenager. But for an adult to be that flaky should be a crime. Any adult with freedom to walk around should have enough sense to pay attention to instructions on a potentially dangerous activity. Some people are so full of their own thoughts & hangups they can't listen and comprehend simple statements or directions. I avoid such people as much as I can.
